De Krook
The monumental building, which incorporates works by artist Michaël Borremans, was designed by the architecture firm Coussée & Goris Architecten and their partner TV RCR Aranda Pigem Vilalta Arquitectes.
The building is an initiative of the City of Ghent, Ghent University and imec. Besides the new city library, De Krook also houses offices and laboratories of Ghent University and imec. Its name refers to the bend ('krook') in the river Scheldt and to the neighbourhood (‘Waalse Krook’), where the building is located.
